A new painting for the upcoming show in Oxford. One of ten new pieces I shall be exhibiting. A subject that I’ve explored previously, this time purely in ink, from memory.

Snow in 2nd Avenue, Manhattan, earlier this year. A more painterly approach than I’ve been using recently with the ink paintings. A move back to this style may be imminent! It’s invariably some months after I complete a painting that I get any sense of whether or not I like it! I’m reasonably happy with this one…

‘A New York winter’ 48 inches x 24 inches
A bit of a departure with this one as I have worked with Indian ink directly onto unprimed canvas. This painting was the centrepiece of the exhibition at One Art Space, New York.
Here’s a track from the forthcoming album by Cooper Black, a cover of Leonard Cohen’s ‘First we take Manhattan’. The big sound was produced by Tony Poole. Any feedback welcome!
Simon Stafford: vocals & acoustic guitar, Rod Craig: electric guitar, Tim Cairns: keyboards, Jim Stagg: bass, Colin Tester: percussion, Andrew Wildman: drums.

New York exhibition opening July 12th
Delighted to be exhibiting my new paintings at One Art Space in Tribeca this summer.
The earlier New York paintings have been very successful in UK so hoping that they are as popular in the city that inspired them. Exciting times!
