Amazing stormy skies over the Atlantic coast in Connemara. Not far from Spiddal. This painting was finished early yesterday morning and hanging in the exhibition at Art in Woodstock festival by lunchtime! Mustn’t leave it so late in future…

Painted this a long time ago but it seems appropriate to post it at the moment. I’ll maybe even include this in the exhibition in Woodstock in September.

Too close to heaven

When I don’t know what to paint, I put on an inspirational piece of music (loud) and see what transpires. On this occasion it was ‘Too close to heaven’ by The Waterboys. This is the result. “I have heard the big music and I will never be the same!”

This painting brings to mind Leonard Cohen’s song ‘First we take Manhattan’ as well as ‘Like a bird on a wire’.

Here are two ink & watercolour drawings I produced after a recent trip to Cornwall, these are inspired by the style of the Japanese calligraphers and watercolourists.

A bit of a change of mood with this painting of travellers at Grand Central, New York. I love the way the light silhouettes the people emerging from the darkness.
